Gordon -- Meditative Ambient #1
August 2011
Wow, o.k., so I'm now officially free-lancing again! The Bonaventure was kinda nuts, and so I had to opt out of that place. But I'm much happier now!
I sold a song to a shoe company in Germany! They found me totally randomly. The web commercial they made is pretty cute! Watch it here: Shoe Slam
And, if it does well, they'll want more tunes!
Doing a lot of recording at home. Check out the player on my Music page. It sorts them randomly, but there are a few new ones in there! The one on there called "Faraway Friends" is for my friend Ali, who lives (faraway) in Turkey. When his wife Martha came to visit, he sent along a cool Turkish flute and a tamborine. So I decided to make a tune using those instruments. It's got a jazzy break in the middle, because he's a real awesome jazz player, so I thought he'd like it....
Really getting my guitar gear where I'm almost totally happy! If you were a gear nut, you know that's a tough place to reach. But I like my sounds and my guitars. Just a few more tweaks, but I'm basically ready to make almost any guitar tone you can name, in the studio or live!!!
Will be writing some music for a documentary on an ancient pilgrimmage trail in Spain. What I've seen of it so far is really good and inspirational. Can't wait for it to be finished!
I'm sure there's more, but that's all I can think of at the moment. Peace.
May 2011
It's been a crazy coupla weeks. I got a new job, Operations Manager of Audio/Visual, at the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown L.A. Nice place, huge hotel. And the thing is, I'm the first new management hire after all 3 of the management team left within a month. The files, the office, the equipment, the billing, all in a state of chaos. Oy! We have a new sales guy who's pretty much kicking ass, but I'm still doing 2 jobs. A bit stressful, but I'm holding my own so far.
So, because of that, I haven't had as much practice, jamming, or composing time as I'd like. I have just completed a couple of guitar tracks for a Berklee colleague, but it's hush-hush, so I can't even tell you his name, and he won't even tell me the name of the song! All I know is it's in B Flat Major. When it sells and becomes a huge hit, I'll let you all know!
Did get to do some jamming with some good players a week or two ago. Everybody had a good time, and I think we'll do it again. All instrumental, with some really good moments in there. Who knows, maybe we'll play it out someday in the near future!
I have a lot of stuff on my plate, waiting for me to complete (or start). I haven't made any progress on my guitar practice/skills method in a while. I know it's going to be good, as long as I get it finished! And I have tunes to write or arrange for about 6 different people. Fortunately, my friends are understanding and patient!
Oh, and I just found out the other day that a film I wrote the music for, "Break The Silence", got accepted to a festival, so that's cool. My friend Turi Haim put it together. And I'll get that oh-so-important IMDB credit!
So, that's some good stuff. Life is always interesting, that's for sure. Things are going well, and it's all happening for the good. I'm learning to open myself up to it and let it happen, and really it seems to work!
March 2011
Well, it's been a little while, so it's time for an update!
Lately, I've just completed some music for a documentary called "Dakota Hunter". It's a cool story about a kinda eccentric guy who goes around the world, salvaging parts of the famous airplane, the DC-3 Dakota. Interesting guy, interesting story. Look for it later, by summer?
I've been doing a lot of guitar recording lately, for myself and others. I recorded 2 tracks for my composer friend Sylvan. One was for a website, and the track had a cool James-Bond-y vibe. The other was for a secret song project, which I literally know nothing about. Hope it works out!
I have some things coming up as well. I am going to be writing music for my friend Oscar Alvarado's new site. He is restoring and selling vintage 3-speed bikes. We went on a ride recently, so much fun! Those babies cruise! Great for city riding. And also, a couple other songs for other folks coming up.
Looks like I may be getting another documentary. I have a meeting with the filmmaker coming up, so we'll see what happens.
I'm always looking for cool
new projects that challenge me and make me think of unique
musical solutions.
